Chuy Chavez aka karinyo (they/elle/siya) is a Bay Area-based sound alchemist and healer. They graduated in 2017 from Seattle University with a Bachelors of Arts in International Studies and Spanish, with a focus on Latin American Studies and received trauma-informed care training at Asian Counseling Referral Service and Casa Latina. Notable highlights include Crybaby 2019 grant, a Seattle Asian American Film Festival (SAAFF) 2021 grant, and a Jack Straw Recording Studio Artist Fellowship 2021-2022; and the 2020 release of their self-titled EP, which has received airplay on KEXP Audioasis. karinyo has played at iconic Seattle venues: Cafe Racer, Chop Suey, Kremwerk, Blue Moon Tavern, Factory Luxe, Vermillion, Wildrose, and Lucky Liquor Tavern and was featured at the 2022 So Dreamy Fest.

When karinyo isn’t performing, they do sound design, audio engineering/production and offer coaching, mentorship and workshops on songcrafting and vocals as a tool for healing. karinyo has designed sound for and/or performed on videos and movement pieces that have been featured at Three Dollar Bill Cinema 2022, Pan Eros Film Festival 2022, TRANSLations 2022, Velocity Dance Center 2018 and 2022, On the Boards 2022, and Intiman Theatre 2022.
